Various types of ornamental plants thrive in Indonesia, there are at least 220 types of ornamental plants under the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture. Popular types are orchid, chrysanthemum, tulip, jasmine, dracaena, Heuchera, rose, lily, flamboyant and others.
“We will continue to encourage exports according to the direction of the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman. From Mojokerto, almost every week, we routinely export ornamental plant tissue culture seeds to the Netherlands, England, America, Canada and Japan,” said the Director General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan), Kelvin during a visit to PT Agri Kultura, Warugunung Village, Pacet District, Mojokerto Regency, Thursday (20/6).
In 2018, PT Agri Kultura exported 1.77 million seeds of ornamental plants to 5 countries, namely the Netherlands, England, America, Canada and Japan. This year’s export target rose to 2.2 million pieces.
Nationally, ornamental plant exports from January to April 2019 amounted to 1,470 tons, up 28.5% compared to January-April 2018. The export value of ornamental plants from January to April 2019 is around IDR 15 billion.
“The potential for export of ornamental plants is very broad so far they have been exported to 30 countries, such as Singapore, Malaysia, China, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, America, England, Kuwait, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Canada and others,” explained Kelvin. .
Export Acceleration Policy
Suwandi said that according to the policy on ease of export, since the beginning of 2019 there has been an acceleration and ease of export permits for ornamental plants as well as horticultural seeds. Where, in the past it was 13 days and now it’s only 3 hours that permits have been issued online, free and transparent.
“We serve e-porters easily, the licensing process is very fast for clear and clean documents,” he said.
In the same place, the owner of PT Agri Kultura, Pinilih Nugrahani said that the results of tissue culture of ornamental plant seeds in 2018 were exported to the Netherlands, America, Britain, Canada and Japan 1.77 million pieces and this year’s target is 2.2 million pieces. Everything is exported and nothing has been sold domestically.
“Our favorite types of ornamental plants are Heuchera, Echinavea, Kniphofia, Euphorbia, Begonia, Agastashe and 12 other types, if there are very many varieties there are 348 varieties,” said the woman who is familiarly called Hani.
